Explanatory note

  • Gaeilge

the town of the son of Ruairí
    Ruairí — ainm pearsanta

Bhí an t-ainm Ruairí comónta i measc mhuintir Dhuinn (m.sh. 1427 ‘Ruaidhri ua duinn taoiseach ua riaccainARÉ IV 870).

Baile fearainn beag is ea é seo (40 acra), ach ar léarscáil an Down Survey chlúdaigh 1655 ‘Ballimcrory’ é seo agus bf An Ghléib (#28678) laistiar (165 acra) araon.

    Mionainmneacha ar an léarscáil:
Díol spéise caomhnú an -th- /h/ láir sa mhionainm Glenlahan River SO < An Gleann Leathan “the wide glen”, a ritheann anuas ó Shliabh Bladhma anseo. Is minic an foghar seo caillte i logainmneacha béarlaithe an chontae seo agus fadú cúitimh a theacht ina áit.

    Ainmneacha stairiúla:
