Glossary

ráth, ráith
English ring-fort

Explanatory note

  • Gaeilge

    the ring-fort of the lepers
Duine a raibh galar gangaideach craicinn air, ní háirithe an lobhra féin, a d'fhéadfadh a bheith i gceist le lobhar. Níl an baile fearainn seo rófhada ó Chluain Meala mar a raibh ospidéal do lobhair. Féach North Munster Archæological Journal 10, 24

  • English

    the ring-fort of the lepers
The word lobhar could refer to the sufferer of any type of virulent skin disease, not necessarily leprosy.
This townland is not too far from Clonmel, where there was a leper hospital. See North Munster Archæological Journal 10, 24
