Cill Lúraigh
The name of this Parish is pronounced in Irish, Cill Lúraigh which signifies the Church of St. Lurach. The name, Lurach mic Cunach, that is, Lurach son of Cunach, occurs in the Irish Calendar at 17th February. But it cannot be stated with certainty that it was from this Lurach, mentioned in the Calendar, the Church and afterwards the Parish of Killoory took their denomination since the festival day of Saint Lurach is not remembered in the Parish. There is, however a holy well called Tobar Lúraigh, the Well of Saint Lurach, situated in the Townland of Ballynoo in this Parish. Stations are not performed at this well at present. There is another Holy Well called Tobar Aoilis, which signifies - ? and is not now frequented by people.
