This Séamas Buí (James Boyce) was a retainer of the Earl of Kildare and constable of Maynooth in the 16th century. Liam Price discusses the placename in his article ‘Place-name study as applied to history’, in Journal of the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland lxxix (1949), lgh.26–29.
