Explanatory note

  • Gaeilge

the ridge of the sons of Murchadh
    Mac Murchaidh – ainm athartha

Léiríonn tagairtí ón 17ú haois gurb é Droim Tí Mac Murchaidh “the ridge of the house of the sons of Murchadh” a bhí san ainm seo ó cheart ach gur thit an focal teach (ginideach uatha ) as níos deireanaí. (JÓG, 09 Meitheamh 2025)

  • English

the ridge of the sons of Murchadh
    Mac Murchaidh – ainm athartha

Historical references from the 17th century suggest that Droim Tí Mac Murchaidh “the ridge of the house of the sons of Murchadh” was the original form of this name. It seems that teach (genitive singular ) fell out of use in the name at a later stage. (JÓG, 09 June 2025)
