Explanatory note

  • Gaeilge

    the mill of the bridge

Tá an baile fearainn seo suite cois Finne in aice le Trian an Mhuilinn. Luaitear Flax Mill ar léarscáil 25 orlach na Suirbhéireachta Ordanáis in aice leis an teorainn idir an dá bhaile fearainn. Cé go mbeadh muileann lín réasúnta déanach mar ghné, tá an-seans ann go raibh muileann de chineál eile ann roimhe. Téann an bóthar idir Srath an Urláir agus Cúil na gCuirridín thar sruthán a ritheann feadh na teorann idir an dá bhaile fearainn isteach san Fhinn, go díreach laisteas den áit a luaitear an muileann lín ann ar an léarscáil. the mill of the bridge

This townland is situated on the banks of the River Finn beside Treanamullin/Trian an Mhuilinn. A Flax Mill is marked next to the border between these two townlands on the Ordnance Survey 25 inch map. Although a flax mill would be a reasonably late feature, it is likely that it was preceded by a mill of a different kind. The road between Stranorlar and Killygordon crosses a stream which forms the border between the two townlands, just to the south of the location of the flax mill on the map. (JÓG)
