Compound of dearg ‘red’ + imleach ‘marshy (shore-)land’ There are a number of lake-names and subdivisions within this townland which also contain the element imleach, such as (Loch) Imleach na Beithe ‘(the lake of) the marshy (shore-)land of the birch’ and (Loch) Imleach na Coirlí ‘(the lake of) the marshy (shore-)land of the strapwrack [a type of seaweed]’.
