An Seabhac: Cill Áirne, k′i:l a:r′n′i .i. an ghnáthfhuirm – ach táim in amhras air. Bhíodh ‘Tobar Muire’ le hais an ceann theas den phríomhshráid tuairim na háite mar a bhfuil Hall an Bhaile anois. Tá ‘The Glebe’ – a ionad le haithint fós ar chúl an Glebe Hotel (Henn St.) Ach ní heolach ionad na seanchille anois má bhí san ann.

Is pronounced in Irish as if written Cill Airne ...
Is pronounced in Irish as if written Cill Airne, which would seem to signify Cell or Church of Saint Airne or Athairhe, but I cannot find any Saint of this name mentioned in the Irish calendar, nor is there any traditional recollection of such in the Parish. Windele explains the name as signifying the church near the sloe trees but this will not do, as the Irish never call the sloe-tree any name but Droighean; it’s fruit is what they call airne. No part of the old church called Cill Airne now remains but it’s site is known and should be shewn on the Ordnance Map.
