"Pinkman: Meascán = A heap, a hill The Down Survey has ‘Measkean,’ ‘Maskan’. Meascán means a lump of butter shaped like a sod of turf. (O’Donovan, Supplement O’Reilly). Then the term was applied to a hill or a summit from some fancied resemblance. A cairn on the top of a hill was sometimes called a meascán. Compare Meascáin-Meidhbhe, carns on the top of Knockarea and Muckish mountains. "
