"Pinkman: Coill-na-Marbh = Wood of the corpses. Silva mortuorum (O’Donovan). The local tradition is that the name originates from a massacre. It is said that a number of Highland red-shanks were cut off here and slain (see Kilbracken): Kilbrackan: Coill-na-mBreacán = Wood of the brackens or plaids. This is O’Donovan’s rendering, and he adds on the Field Name Sheet “Here is where the red-shanks threw off their brackens.” "
