"Pinkman: Dris-te-rnán = A place abounding in brambles. Dristernán is a derivative from dris or dreas, a bramble. The terminaton ‘rnán’ has a cumulative effect, the sense of ‘full of’ or ‘abounding in.’ A vowel sound inserted between the root word and the termination is common enough, but the letter ‘t’ is uncommon. Compare Joyce, Place-names, Vol. II, page 335; and O’Donovan, Supplement O’Reilly, Dristenach, Dristernach. "
