"Pinkman: Druim-Parsons = Parsons’ ridge. The surname Parsons. The name, though, is written on an old county map, Drumparson. This points to the possibility that the letter ‘s’ in the English word may be a corruption. In that case it may be the Irish word, pearsún,which was originally applied to the Priest of a parish – one who had the care of souls. The English word, Parson, came to be restricted to Protestant Rectors, but the Irish word pearsún was always used for the Catholic Parish Priest. Compare Guirtín-an-Phearsúin, Hogan, Onomasticon, and Joyce, Place-names, Vol. II, page 57. "
