"Pinkman: Achadh-dúin-bháin = Field of the white ‘dun’ or fort. The Irish word, dún, means strong or firm. Compare Dunluce, Dún-lios. As a noun, it is used to denote the fortified residence of a King or Chief. According to law, it should have at least two surrounding mounds or walls with water between, but very often it had several circumvallations. (Compare Joyve, Social History, Vol. II, p.56). "
