"Pinkman: Druim-gCéin = Cian’s or Kean’s ridge. This name was sometimes written Drumgean (O’Donovan). Compare Drumgane in CO. Armagh, which Joyce renders Druim-gCéin, Cian’s ridge. It would appear that Druim is here used as a neuter noun and that this accounts for the eclipsis. Cian is a very ancient personal name. The Ancestor of the O’Mahonys of Iveagh in Munster was named Cian, and among this family the personal name Cian, or Kean, was quite common up to comparatively modern times. "
