"Pinkman: Tul-an-Mhuilinn = Hill of the mill. Watermills were in general use throughout Ireland, at least from the earliest ages of Christianity and they played an important part in the lives of the people. The lives of many early saints tell how these saints erected milss at their monasteries. There was a mill in connection with St. Brigid’s nunnery at Kildare; the Mill of St. Fechin of Fore is well know. And the Annalists of 954Ad record the burning of St. Ciaran’s Mill at Cloonmacnois. "
