"Pinkman: Tul-an-tSluaigh = Hill of the host of multitude. The Irish word, sluagh, means any crowd or multitude. An sluagh, the public; sluagh mór daoine, a great crowd of people. It forms part of the names of a number of places where people were in the habit of gathering together in large numbers. In the Annals, however, the word is commonly used to denote an army or a host on the march. In this townland of Tullintloy, it would seems as if the word is used in some military sense, for there is some tradition of a battle here, and it is not so long ago since battle-axes were dug up in the townland.
