"Pinkman: Achadh-droma-chairn = Field of the ridge of the ‘carn’ The Irish word ‘carn’ means a heap or a pile of stones, the stones raised over a grave as a memorial of the person, or persons, buried beneath. Tirechan relates that, when St. Patrick’s charioteer, Totmael, died near Croagh Patrick, they made a heap of stones beside his grave. The custom still survives in parts of the country of placing a stone over the spot, where an individual met a sudden or untimely death."
