"Pinkman: Cor-na-croise = Round hill of the cross. The form of the English name is puzzling. It does not appear to be a correct rendering of an Irish form of the word, cros. O’Donovan writes, rather tentatively, I think, Cor-na-gcrosie and Cor-na-gcros. The Down Survey has Cornegres and Cornegresse, and old spellings of the name were Cornagrisha and Cornagrish. I suggest that the Irish word represented here is the word greis, greise, which means a conflict, an attack, and that the Irish form of the name is more probably Cor-na-greise, hill of the conflict."
