"Pinkman: Leabaidh-Aislinne = Aislinn or Eslin’s tomb or grave. Aislinn is a very ancient personal name; it occurs in the Mac Rannal pedigree. I think the Breifney surname, Heslin, comes from this. A sepulchre was sometimes called leaba or leabaidh, a word which, primarily, means a bed, but it is applied, in a secondary sense, to a grave. “leaba is the name of several places in Ireland which are commonly called leabthacha-na-bhFéinne, the monuments of the Fenii or old Irish champions.” (O’Brien Dictionary). These monuments are pretty numerous, and it is not an uncommon thing to hear them called Druids’ Altars – places where the pagan priesthood offered sacrifices. They are really tombs of dead warriors. Giants’ graves would be more correct, for this preserves the memory of their original purpose. Cromlechs are called in many parts of the country leaba Dhiarmada agus Gráinne – the bed of Diarmaid and Gráinne. This name has its origin in the well-known legend that Diarmaid O’Duibhne elop
