"Pinkman: Ceathramhain = a quarter of land. Cartron was a term introduced by the Anglo-Normans; It was applied to anything from 60 to 160 acres of land. There are about 80 townlands named Cartron, most of them in Connaught, and the term forms the beginning of 50 or 60 others. "
