"Pinkman: Sceach-Mhártain = Martin’s lone bush. Locally this name is made Skymartin! The name Martin, under the form Máirtín, came into Ireland at the time of the Anglo-Normas. It was a more popular name in France, due largely to the celebrated St. Martin of Tours. It comes for the Latin Martius, a diminutive of Martius (Mars, the Roman God of war). But before that, it was well known in Ireland under the form Mártan. There was a Clann Martan, who were a sub-division of the Clann Culbrain – a branch of the Conmaicne Magh Rein. (Compare Hogan, Onomasticon, page 227). "
