the hillock of Bradán?
The second element here is most likely to be a personal name or surname. The 16th century manuscript Leabhar Fhíonach mentions 'cland Bradain' (i.e., 'the family of Bradan')

"Pinkman: Tulaigh-Bhradáin nó Tulaigh-Ui-Bhradáin. Compare “loch Bradain in Muintir Eolais.” (Hogan 495). Braden from the Irish Bradan, a salmon. Hence the surnames O’Bradan, O’Bradane, O’Bradden and Bradan, anglicised into Salmon and Fisher .The Clann Bradán were a branch of the Conmaicne maighe Rein (Hogan, Onom. 236). It would appear that some members of this family adopted the form O’Bárdán. So they are written in some of the Annals. Other writers seem to think that the Ó’Bárdáin was an earlier form of the name O’Bradán (Dr. Mac Neill, Clare Island Survey). The Annals of Ulster under 1369 have the form O’Bárdáin; while the almost contemporary Book of Ballymote has the form Clann Bradáin, Clann Bradán. The surname Braden was to be found around Mohill up to very recent times. The townland lies beside Mohill town."
