the town of An Róisteach
An Róisteach -- ón sloinne de Róiste (< de la Roche). Is minic i gcáipéisí luatha gallda -x- á scríobh don fhuaim /s´/ (-s- caol), m.sh. Leix do Laois. Ach tá cuid mhaith bailte fearainn eile den ainm 'Roxborough' tríd an tír: is dócha go mbaineann roinnt díobh, ar a laghad, le Roxborough i ndeisceart na hAlban - Gaeilge
the town of An Róisteach
An Róisteach -- from the surname de Róiste (< de la Roche). In early English documents, -x- was often written for /s´/ (-s- caol), e.g. Leix for Laois. But there are many other townlands of the name 'Roxborough' across the country: it is probable that some of them, at least, relate to Roxborough in southern Scotland
