the streaked rath
Perhaps there were two raths here long ago -- rather than a townland named An Ráth Riabhach being divided into two subdivisions, -Beag and -Mór. Ráth Riabhach Lis Ghadaí, 'the streaked rath of Lios Ghadaí (the enclosure of the thief)', appears to be another name for An Ráth Riabhach Mhór in the Peyton Survey of 1586: 'Rareoghbeg, Rathreoughmore al. Rathrieghe Lysgaddye' - English
the streaked rath
B'fhéidir go raibh dhá ráth i gceist anseo i bhfad siar -- seachas dhá chuid a bheith déanta de bhaile darbh ainm An Ráth Riabhach. Ráth Riabhach Lis Ghadaí de réir dealraimh atá mar mhalairt ar An Ráth Riabhach Mhór i bhfianaise an Peyton Survey ón mbliain 1586: 'Rareoghbeg, Rathreoughmore al. Rathrieghe Lysgaddye'
