Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
the wood of the boar
Socraíodh Coill an Chollaigh mar ainm oifigiúil ar an ionad daonra anseo (#3623) in Ainmneacha Gaeilge na mBailte Poist (1969) agus tá ainm Gaeilge an pharóiste dlí ar aon dul leis sin. Mar is léir ón bhfianaise bhí an-éiginnteacht faoi cheartfhoirm an cháilitheora: ‘Kilcolhie’ (1629), ‘Cille Col:aigh’ LSO, ‘Aonach Cille Calthaigh, the Fair of Bailieboro’ (1891).
Fuair an áit seo a hainm Béarla as William Bailie, Albanach a fuair tailte anseo sa bhliain 1610.
- English
the wood of the boar
The English name comes from William Bailie, a Scot who was granted lands in this area in 1610
