Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
the town(land) of Ó Gabhann
Ó Gabhann – sloinne
Tá an sloinne seo fianaithe go maith i measc na nGael i gContae na Mí. D’fhéadfaí gurbh é an sloinne Angla-Normannach Smith atá taobh thiar den logainm seo ó thús, dá mba é, is léir go fhorbair sé go Baile Uí Ghabhann sa Ghaeilge.

- English
the town(land) of Ó Gabhann
Ó Gabhann – surname
This surname is well attested among the Gaels of County Meath. It is possible that the Anglo-Norman surname Smith was originally behind this placename, if so, it is clear that it developed into Baile Uí Gabhann in Irish.
