Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
‘the small thicket, (oak-)wood of Ó Dálaigh’
Cé gur dócha gur Droinn a bhí sa chéad mhír ó thús, féach 1461-83 droyngdaly (Stat. Rolls), is léir gur baineadh ciall eile as an chéad mhír le himeacht ama, agus an focal Droinn imithe as an chaint b’fhéidir, féach 1836 Doirin ui dhalaigh (pl:AL). - English
‘the small thicket, (oak-)wood of Ó Dálaigh’
Although the first element was probably originally Droinn, see 1461-83 droyngdaly (Stat. Rolls), it is clear that over time the first element was reinterpreted, possibly as the word Droinn disappeared from speech, see 1836 Doirin ui dhalaigh (pl:AL).
