(379) Colooney, a post-town … is called in Irish Cul Una(Cool Oona) … This place … took its name from a woman named Una … daughter of Mac Donogh… as did Coolany, another village in the Parish of Killoran … takes its name from Áinne (.i.,Cul Ainne, Coolá Ínne)… It is the tradition among the people that a portion of land where each of these villages stand was given as a dowry to each of his daughters by McDonogh… Coolloony is an alias name for Cuil Maoile…
