Askintinny. Sergeant Mangan... says it is pronounced 'A. tenny' or A. tanny and there is a story that a huge ell lived in the marsh, and there was an appearance like fire on it- it was driven out to sea and left a channel in the marsh, which was filled up with rocks etc. So 'Ask an teine', eel of the fire'. Lch. 18.
