Bhí claonadh i gcanúintí an oirdheiscirt ar -th- /h/ (caol nó leathan) idir dhá ghuta ghairide a chailliúint, agus fadú cúitimh a theacht ar an gcéad ghuta díobh. (Cf. 1838 ‘Cnoc léad ... hill of the breadth’ OD:AL ag cainteoir dúchais le haghaidh bf Cnoc Leithid (#1417562) sa bharúntacht chéanna.) Is dealraitheach mar sin gurb é an focal leathan (> * lea’an) > leán atá sa dara heilimint anseo, ach ní féidir talamh slán a dhéanamh de.
