    the castle-town
giorrúchán < Baile Chaisleáin Ó Fairchealláin “the castle-town of Uí Fhairchealláin” Tá cur síos ar an gcaisleán agus ar an mbábhún, atá suite in bf An Ghais (#27827), san Fhardal Seandálaíochta (www.archaeology.ie). Féach Ó Corragáin: ‘In ancient records it [the town of Castletown] is sometimes called Castletown-Offerlane, that is, Castletown in the territory of Ui-Foircheallain, to distinguish it from Castletown in the parish of Kyle, Castletown-Criffin in the parish of Rathdowney and Castletown-McCody in Galmoy’ (History and Antiquities of the Diocese of Ossory II 171). Tá neart logainmneacha den déantús Baile C(h)aisleáin (+* * cáilitheoir) ar fud na tíre. Féach freisin nóta an Donnabhánaigh faoi b An Sráidbhaile (#1416676) ‘Sráid bhaile, ‘street-town’ (as contradistinguished from ‘castle-town’).’ Cf. bf Baile Chaisleáin Chriofainn (#27904), bf Baile an Chaisleáin (#28783) agus Baile Chaisleáin Ó mBuí (#28844).
