- Gaeilge
the ford of the cairn?
Tá cuid den pharóiste seo i gContae Chill Chainnigh (#1256).
Tagann leagan Gaeilge anuas chugainn ón mbliain 1606 .i. ‘A naith charrna’ (féach Nic Dhonnchadha ‘The Medical School of Aghmacart’ in Ossory, Laois and Leinster 2 (2006) le haghaidh tuilleadh eolais faoin bhfoinse seo). Téann fianaise an logainm siar go dtí an 15ú haois, m.sh. 1494 ‘Hacharna’. Tuairimíonn Ó Murchadha in Laois: History and Society 40 gurb ionann é seo agus an logainm stairiúil ‘Áth Coirthíne’ (féach Foclóir Stairiúil Áitainmneacha na Gaeilge s.n.; cf. bf Coirthín (#28458)).
