Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
Is aistriúchán í an fhoirm Ghaeilge.
Cloch an tSionnaigh “the stone (structure) of the fox” an seanainm ar an mbaile id An Chloch (#131217) atá suite sa bhaile fearainn seo. (Cf. Foxrock School agus Foxrock Cottage SO 25ʺ.) ‘Cluchanthunna’ an fhoghraíocht áitiúil a thugann Ó Corragáin ar an ainm úd (1905), a thaispeánann fuaimniú -(a)igh na Gaeilge mar /ə/, mar a mbeifí ag súil leis sa cheantar seo. Díol spéise an ‘-thunna’ seo a chur i gcomparáid le [Doirín na] Seannach in áit eile sa pharóiste seo (#28705).
Níl aon chur síos ar aon iarsmaí den struchtúr cloiche seo san Fhardal Seandálaíochta (www.archaeology.ie).

Clough: the chapel of Clough, or Clugh; Cluchathunna i.e. Cloch a' t-Sionaigh
'Clough: a very large mass house [referred to in 1731]. This must have been the first chapel of Clough. its successor, the late parish chapel of Clough, built .. about 1770... this latter chapel has been always known locally as "the chapel of Clough" or rather Clugh, because it is built on the t.l. of Cluchathunna i.e. Cloch a' t-Sionaigh, or the Fox'x Rock, now entered on the OS map as Chapel Hill'
