Explanatory note

  • Gaeilge

    the white Deilge?
    Deilge — logainm (atuigthe/giorraithe < Cill Deilge)?

Is cosúil go bhfuil an t-ainm seo bunaithe ar an ainm eaglasta bf, par Cill Deilge (#1470, #28033) a bhfuil tagairtí an-luatha le fáil dó, m.sh. 722 ‘Cilli delgi’ [gin.]. Tá samplaí againn d’ainm na heaglaise úd ina seasann an dara heilimint gan aicmitheoir, e.g. 1303 ‘Delgy’, 1566 ‘Delge’. Is cosúil go ndearnadh an cáilitheoir seo a atuiscint faoi mar gur logainm ann féin é .i. Deilge “(place of) thorns” (cf. bf Deilge (#10732) (Co 1)) agus gur eascair Deilge Bán “the white Deilge” mar fhoroinn den Deilge seo < Cill Deilge.
