Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
(the) wood of —
Ní léir bunús an cháilitheora anseo. Is é 1570c ‘Ros Breannuidh’ (: ‘eallaigh’) an fhoirm atá le fáil i lámhscríbhinní an Leabhair Bhranaigh. Níl mórán dealraimh leis an leasú ‘Breannuibh’ ag an eagarthóir — faoi thionchar an ainm phearsanta Brannabh (< Brandubh) (cf. bf Ráth Bhrannaibh/Rathfran (#34615) i Maigh Eo), b’fhéidir. Réitíonn an chéad ghuta in ‘Breannuidh’ (: ‘eallaigh’) leis na foirmeacha béarlaithe in bren-, 1563c ‘Rosbrenogh’, 1622 ‘Rosbrennagh’, 1659 ‘Rosbren’. Más ea ní léir dúinn cad atá anseo.
Réiteach fuaime a mholaimid thuas, bunaithe ar fhoirm seo an Leabhair Bhranaigh.
