Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
the town of Ó Ceallaigh
Ó Ceallaigh — sloinneNíl aon fhianaise dhíreach ar an logainm Gaeilge ach féach 1563 ‘Grant to Frynne O’Kelly; of the lands of Rathaspick als Rahaspock [#28213] and Kyllecle [#28210]’ F (Eilíse) 536. Measaimid gur móide gurb é an sloinne Ó Ceallaigh atá anseo, mar atá le fáil in ainm na seandúiche Fearann Ó gCeallaigh in iardheisceart bharúntacht an tSráidbhaile inniu (#129). Níor cheart Ó Caollaí a chur as an áireamh ar fad, sloinne a luaitear leis an dúiche seo Uí Bhuí *c.*1400:
Críoch Ó mBuidhe an fhóid fhinntigh ós Bearbha mbuig mbraoinlinntigh;
d’Ó Chaolluidhe as caomh an chríoch,
aoghoire nár fhaomh eissíoth(Ó hUidhrín, Topographical Poems)
Cf. 1652 ‘James Keally of Ballyleaghan [#28837]’ Dep. 1641 398r.
Mionainmneacha ar an léarscáil:
Is dócha go dtagann an mionainm Furzehill Well SO ó *Cnoc an Aitinn ach ní thagann aon fhianaise ar an ainm Gaeilge anuas chugainn.
