"Pinkman: Dr. O’Donovan is accountable for the spelling Drumahira on the Ordnance Survey Sheets, but he made no attempt at an Irish rendering. If this be the correct English form, then I think the Irish rendering is the same as that for Drumahaire in North Leitrim, Druim-dhá-ethiar. Compare Hogan, Onomasticon, Druim-dhá-ethiar. There is a local tradition that St. Patrick, after his visit to Magh-Sleacht in Co. Cavan, passed through this district. It lies convenient to the Cavan border and not far from Magh-Sleacht. Perhaps an incident, similar to that which tradition associates with Drumahaire, happened here too, though now the only thing that recalls it is the name. But against this interpretation of the name, there is this. It is strange that O’Donovan, who was well acquainted with Drumahaire and its meaning, remains silent, when he meets Drumahira. The curious point is that the old Parish Books write the name Dernahaire, Dernahaira, Dernahira, and in one or other of these forms the
