"Pinkman: Coill-Mhín = Small or smooth wood. The Down Survey writes this name, Killmine. A Fiant of Elizabeth (5439) has Killmyne, while a Royal Commission Report of 1821-1825 has Killmeene. The letter ‘a’ in the middle of the English word makes it difficult to say what is the true Irish form. It may represent a vowel sound inserted in pronunciation, or it is possible that the genitive, coille, is here used as a nominative – coille-mhín. It is rare to find the genitive form used as a nominative, but, according to Dr. Joyce, it sometimes occurs. Compare Joyce, Place-names, Vol. III, pages 13, 417. "
