The great plague, which visited Europe and this Country in the seventh century is often called ‘Buidheachar.’ It is possible that there may be some reference to that disease in this name. And it is a fact that one ancient rendering of this name was ‘lawn of trouble or affliction’ – alluding, possibly, to the presence of a well that cured the trouble. (Compare Joyce Place-names, Vol,II, page 10).
