"Pinkman: *Barr an Earbaill = Top of the tail or stripe of land. Earball means the tail of an animal – from ‘ar,’ on, and ‘ball’ a member, ‘the member added on.’ In a transferred sense, the term was often applied to the end of any natural feature. For instance, a long low hill or a long patch of land, which was the extremity of a larger portion, or which was considered to bear some resemblance to the tail of an animal. "
