"Pinkman: An tSráid = The street Sráid means a street, a village of one street, a farmyard, the space around a residence. This townland has two divisions – one called Sráid-Uí Chonghalaigh nó Uí Chonghaile, Sraud Connolly; the other named Sráid-Ui Fhearghusa, Sraud O’Fergus. The O’Connolly family were connected with the Monastery of Devenish. The family of O’Fergus – fear, a man, and gus strength, manly strength – were the coarbs of St. Mogue of Rossinver. “Sixteen cartrons of land belonged to Rossinver Church and these were called Termon lands (Tearmann). The Ferguses were the erenaghs of this termon; hence it was called Termann Uí Fhearghusa. Hugh Fergus, who is the senior of this family, lives now (1836) in Sraud – in that part called after him, Sraud Fergus.” (O’Donovan, Letters on Leitrim). "

"LSO: This is not the fact, as I learned upon visiting old Fergus. The original MS. of Rossinver has long since disappearted, but a modern copy of it is in the possession of Mr. Ward, who lives on the south east extremity of Lough Melvin. This was made from a more ancient copy of the same work in the handwriting of James Maguire a famous Irish scribe who lived in 1726 at Slive-Da-Chon, in the Barony of Magheraboy and Co. of Fermanagh, which is now in the possession of Myles John O’Reilly, who has lent it to me.
