"Pinkman: Coill-an-Anma = Wood of life, or wood of the soul. The place is mentioned in the Annals of the Four Masters. “Depredations were afterwards committed by the sons of Tiernan O’Ruairc upon Donough Bacagh at Coill-an-Anma.” AD 1435. Killananima is the name of a townland in the parish of Killanummery. It lies south of the River Bonet, and borders Drumlease towland in the parish of Drumlease. It is difficult to offer a satisfactory explanation of the name. Perhaps the place was offered to the monastery of Drumlease as a soul’s ransom, or for the spiritual good of its owner. Anma may be the genitive singular of ainm, a name, though I do not know that this would add a lot more sense. There is a place near Ballycastle, Co. Antrim, called Ált-na-nAinm, celebrated for its ghost (ainm) – Dineen. And there is a lake in Scotland named Loch-an-Anama, lake of the ghost. "
