"Pinkman Cill-Mhic-Chairill = Mac Kerril’s or Mac Cairell’s church. The name is spelled Kill-McCoyril in the Registry of Clonmacnoise. See Hogan, Onomasticon, Cill-Mac-Cairill. The place is a few miles to the east of Manorhamilton. It has an old burial ground, still in use, and the ruins of an old church. The original church was dedicated to this Saint Mac Cairell. The Martyrology of Donegal under August 18th has “Daigh, son Cairell, Bishop of Inis-Caoin-Degha.(Inis Keen in Oriel). The Year of the Lord, when he resigned his spirit, was 586.” Very probably this is the saint to whom this old church in Kilmakerril was dedicated. He was a celebrated artificer – supposed to have made 150 bells, 100 croziers and covers or cases for 60 Gospels. St. Berach of Kilbarry was his disciple.” "
