"Pinkman: Cluain-tiomchair = Meadow land of the carriage. The Irish word is iomchar, with the letter ‘t’ prefixed. “Sometimes an aspiration gets restored, but in its backward search loses its way and takes up with the wrong original letter” (Joyce, Place-names, Vol. III, Page 6). In this case a ‘ph’ or ‘f’ sound is substituted for the guttural. Possibly the name originated from a carriage maker who lived there."
