Explanatory note

  • Gaeilge

    field of ferns
Bhí dhá áit den ainm céanna Achadh Raithneach sa bharúntacht seo sa 17ú haois. Freagraíonn an tríú háit atá luaite san fhianaise stairiúil (1632 'Aghenemenragh', 1655 'Aghanamanra', '1660c 'Aghannamanra') do ** ** *Achadh na Manrach, 'field of the paddocks'; tá an t-ainm seo caillte ó shin.

  • English

    field of ferns
There were two places called Achadh Raithneach in this barony in the 17th century. The third name mentioned in the historical evidence here (1632 'Aghenemenragh', 1655 'Aghanamanra', '1660c 'Aghannamanra') corresponds to ** ** *Achadh na Manrach, 'field of the paddocks'; this name is now defunct.
