“RAGHNALL, genitive -aill, Reginald, Reynald, Ronald, (Randal, Randulph); Teutonic — Raginwald, Reginwald, mighty-power, Norse Rǫgnvaldr, Norman — Ragenald, Regnault, Reynald, English — Reynold; a Teutonic name which reached us by two channels, first through the Norsemen when it was largely borrowed by the Irish and Scottish Gaels, especially the MacDonnells, by whom it was incorrectly anglicised Randal, and again through the Anglo-Normans, among whom it was very common.
