Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
horn?
Tá cuid den pharóiste seo i gContae Chill Chainnigh. Luaitear an áit seo i rann beag ó thús an 18ú haois:
Baile Phráis na mbrataibh síoda
Is Radharc Mhic Códa a’ góbhail na gaoithe[na mbrataibh: ginideach iolra is dócha; a’ góbhail .i. ag gabháil] (féach Litreacha na Suirbhéireachta Ordanáis CC I, 113)
B’fhéidir go ndearna muintir na háite atuiscint ar Adhairc mar Radharc (Mhic Códa) “(Mac Códa’s) view” (féach an leagan Gaeilge áitiúil 1838 ‘radharc mhá códa’ i gCill Chainnigh; cf. 1838 ‘Ráith teanach’ < Attanagh (CC, La) (#1416)), ach má rinne ní mhaireann aon rian den r- seo sna foirmeacha Béarla. Féach, áfach, go bhfuil an cáilitheoir céanna san ainm Gaeilge úd le sonrú in 1508 ‘Urke McOde’. (Cf. par Scadharc (#1458).)
Ní hionann an t-ainm seo agus an logainm stairiúil Adharca in Uí Fhailghe (féach Foclóir Stairiúil Áitainmneacha na Gaeilge). Is é bf Baile an Phráis (La 34) (#28097) an logainm eile sa líne filíochta thuas.
