Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
fallow land?
Baile fearainn beag (195 acra) suite idir portach lastoir agus teorainn barúntachta laistiar (1660c ‘Land in controversie called Branranevane’).
Ní hannamh -ndr- a dhéanamh de -nr- /nr/ na Gaeilge sa bhéarlú, mar atá le feiscint i gcuid de na leaganacha san Ainmleabhar (1838) agus sna foirmeacha áitiúla (2004): cf., mar shampla, na háiteanna darb ainm Béarla Drumcondra < Droim Conrach i mBaile Átha Cliath agus sa Mhí.
Ainmneacha stairiúla:
Ní léir cad é an fhoirm fhada den ainm atá le feiscint sna tagairtí gaolmhara 1655 ‘Branrananeene’, 1655 ‘Branranranaan’, 1660c ‘Branranevane’ — Branra na nÉan “the fallow land of the birds”?
