Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
the town of An tÁirséarach
An tÁirséarach — ón sloinne Áirséir (< le Archer na nAngla-Normannach)‘Awshoor’ a fuair Ó Corragáin mar leagan Gaeilge den sloinne Archer ó chainteoir sa cheantar seo timpeall na bliana 1896 (Studia Hibernica 31) (an r-caol /ʒ/ báite leis an s-caol /ʃ/) — tá cuma ábhairín saorga ar an litriú ‘Bollaazhshoor’ aige ar an logainm seo in History and Antiquities of the Diocese of Ossory II 309, áfach. Cuir é sin i gcomparáid le 1838 ‘Baile áirséara’ anseo (pl:AL) agus 1835 ‘baile an árséara’ (pl:AL) faoi bf Archersleas/Baile an Áirséaraigh (#26939) (CC 19). Cf. bf Baile an Áirséaraigh (#47280) (TÁ 41).
