the town of Ó Glaisín?
Ó Glaisín — sloinneTá an cáilitheoir éiginnte anseo. Cuir i gcás 1601 ‘Hugh buoy O Glisshen’ faoi bf Bealach an Ráithín (#28733) i bparóiste Ráth Domhnaigh in iardheisceart an chontae; is cosúil gurb ionann ‘O Glisshen’ sa chás sin agus an sloinne béarlaithe Gleeson atá le fáil sa cheantar céanna ní ba dhéanaí (féach Tithe Applotment Books, Griffith’s Valuation, etc.). B’fhéidir gur malairt foirme den sloinne Ó Gliasáin/Ó Glasáin atá anseo. Cf. Baile Uí Ghlaisín (#48356) (TÁ).
D’fhéadfadh sé freisin gur *Baile (an) G(h)laisín “the town of the little stream” atá ann — cé gur suarach an sruthán atá ar imeall thiar an bhaile fearainn is é teorainn an pharóiste é. Ach ní thiocfadh -glish-, -glesh- leis na réaduithe eile ar an nguta in glais(e), clais sa chontae seo (/ɑ~ɔ/ atá le sonrú sna logainmneacha bf An Chlais (#28430), bf An Ghlaise (#28093), bf Glais na Muc (#27822), bf Coill Átha Glais (#28486), srl.).
